Our Retreats

At Amor Fati, we gather in sacred space to facilitate guided 5-MeO-DMT ceremonies for those who feel called to this divine sacrament.
It is our sincere religious belief that the gifts offered through this spirit medicine are unparalleled—capable of freeing those imprisoned by suffering and guiding them toward a life of healing, liberation, and spiritual awakening.

All ceremonies are guided by our founder, Juan Aguilera—a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt and respected guide known for his work with Veterans and First Responders, and for creating safe spaces for deep transformation and self-discovery.

What is the general scope of a ceremony?

Our sacred ceremonies, guided by Juan Aguilera, are intentional, heart-centered experiences created to support deep healing, self-inquiry, and personal transformation through the sacrament of 5-MeO-DMT. Each gathering is held in a safe, respectful, and compassionate space where participants are invited to explore their inner landscape with openness and trust.

These ceremonies are for those who feel a sincere call to this work—whether you’re navigating the depths of trauma, grief, or major life transitions, or simply seeking a deeper connection to self, Spirit, and purpose. This is a space for healing, gaining clarity, and returning to wholeness. We approach this work with reverence and humility, understanding that each person’s journey is unique.

Through intentional preparation, sacred ceremony, and thoughtful integration, we aim to provide a grounded container for lasting transformation and reconnection with your true self. For those unfamiliar with this work, please watch this YouTube segment, which offers valuable insight into the ceremonial context and my work with Veterans and others in Mexico.

While tailored towards Veterans, the medicine is open to anyone who feels called, regardless of background or specific challenges. Before the ceremony, each participant completes a medical and psychological screening to ensure safety and suitability. Upon registration and donation, you will receive a link to schedule your intake call, along with access to a dedicated group chat to begin connecting with others attending your ceremony. Lodging is generally not included; we provide references for accommodations nearby.

Ceremonies typically take place on Saturdays and Sundays, with opening circles beginning promptly at 9:00 AM (check-in at 8:30 AM). Arriving Friday to rest is recommended for out-of-town guests.

Please note group capacity is limited and your space is reserved upon receipt of your donation. Though this is a group experience, personalized support, guidance, and privacy are provided throughout your journey.

Preparing thoughtfully helps you get the most from your ceremony.

Key steps include:

  • Intentions: Begin to reflect on your intentions for the journey, but hold them lightly. Intentions are powerful guides, but the medicine often works beyond the mind’s expectations. One of the most effective ways to prepare is to arrive with an open heart and a clear inner space—like a blank canvas. When approached with reverence, those who take preparation seriously often find that their expectations are not only met but surpassed.
  • Substance Avoidance: Please discontinue use of alcohol and recreational substances at least 14 days prior to the ceremony. This is a sign of respect for the process and an important step in clearing your system to receive the medicine more fully and optimize your experience.
  • Vaporizer Usage (Critical for Non-Smokers): 5-MeO-DMT is inhaled via vaporizer, requiring breath-holding up to 10 seconds. Non-smokers or those unfamiliar with this method should integrate breathwork practices (like diaphragmatic or box breathing) in advance.

This medicine is administered through a vaporizer pipe and requires you to inhale deeply and hold the vapor for approximately 10 seconds or less. This is a vital part of the process. For those who are not accustomed to smoking or vaporizing substances, this step can be unexpectedly difficult—and it can significantly affect the depth and outcome of your journey. If you’re not a regular smoker or have limited experience with controlled breath-holding, we urge you to begin preparing now. The breath is not only the delivery mechanism for the medicine—it is also a bridge to presence, surrender, and deeper receptivity.

To help prepare your lungs and nervous system, consider integrating the following practices in the days and weeks before ceremony:

  • Daily breathwork (5–10 minutes) focusing on slow, controlled breathing. One effective pattern is: inhale for 4 seconds → hold for 7 seconds → exhale for 8 seconds. – Box breathing: Inhale → hold → exhale → hold, each for 4 counts. This helps build comfort with breath-holding.
  • Lung expansion drills: Take a full inhale, hold it as long as comfortable, then exhale slowly. Gradually increase hold time.
  • Breath-hold walks: After a deep inhale, hold your breath for a few steps while walking—excellent for improving control and capacity.
  • Diaphragmatic breathing (belly breathing) to support full-lung expansion and reduce anxiety around inhalation.

If you’re unsure where to begin or feel resistance around this, please reach out. We’re happy to connect you with a breathwork practitioner who can guide you through simple, accessible exercises to build confidence and readiness for this important part of your journey.

  • Medication & Health Transparency: Full disclosure of medications and health conditions is essential for your safety and the integrity of the container. Please see the detailed section below.
  • Dietary Recommendations: Avoid processed foods and refined sugars at least 14 days prior. Gradually reduce caffeine starting 14 days out, with complete cessation at least 3-5 days before to minimize nausea and jitters.
  • Mental and Emotional Preparation: Avoid violent or disturbing media and sexual activity for 7 days or more before the ceremony. Engage in calming practices like meditation, journaling, gentle yoga, or nature walks to cultivate presence and openness.
  • Hydration and Fasting: Drink plenty of water before the ceremony. On ceremony morning, consume only water and fast from food until after your session to reduce nausea.
  • Practical Logistics: Rest well the night before and plan to arrive relaxed and unhurried. Avoid strenuous physical activity on ceremony day. By honoring these steps, you prepare your whole being for a safe, respectful, and powerful journey.

Safety is our highest priority. Full transparency during screening and registration helps us provide the safest and most supportive experience. Please disclose all medications. Additionally, inform us of any cardiovascular or heart conditions, history of seizures, or other significant health issues. This information is critical for assessing suitability and coordinating with your medical provider if needed. Some medications may require adjustment prior to the ceremony, always under your prescribing doctor’s guidance. This process protects both you and the community container, ensuring a respectful and safe environment for everyone. If you have questions about medications or health concerns, please reach out before registering.

Being transparent about your medications and health history helps us create a safe and nurturing environment for your ceremony.

Certain medications and medical conditions can increase risks with 5-MeO-DMT. These include:

  • Benzodiazepines (Xanax, Ativan, Klonopin)
  • Antidepressants (SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOIs)
  • Antipsychotics or mood stabilizers
  • Opioids or narcotic pain meds
  • Stimulants (Adderall, Ritalin)
  • Sleep medications (Ambien)
  • Heart meds or beta blockers
  • Seizure disorders
  • Cardiovascular issues (arrhythmias, high blood pressure, heart attack history)
  • Recent surgeries or unstable health conditions
  • Current or recent pregnancy

Because this medicine deeply affects the nervous system and body, your system needs to be stable and regulated to safely participate. We ask all participants to openly share this information during the screening and registration process so we can assess whether this is the right time for the work.

In some cases, waiting and tapering off medications safely—under the medical guidance of your prescribing doctor—may be advised. In others, participation may be postponed for your safety.

We are here to support you with compassion and without judgment. If you’re unsure about anything, please reach out for guidance.
